# Deulofeu Wants Victory in Guardiola Reunion

Gerard Deulofeu is keen to get one over on his old mentor Pep Guardiola when Everton take on Manchester City this Saturday.

The young Spaniard came through the ranks at Barcelona, graduating from the Catalans’ famed ‘La Masia’ academy, and was given his first-team bow by Guardiola in 2011.

Speaking to the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/evertons-ex-barcelona-winger-deulofeu-12016059), Deulofeu claims that the Spanish giants will “always be in my heart,” but he insists his focus is firmly on succeeding with Everton.

> “I have good memories because I spent a long part of my career at Barcelona and Pep gave me my debut,” Deulofeu said.

> “He is a big manager but this weekend we need to take the three points against him.

> “When I had the chance to train with Pep Guardiola I was 17, 18 years-old, and I was so young but I remember he would take me after training and show me movements and actions in defence because I always wanted to attack and not to defend.”

Despite looking back with fondness, the mercurial winger will now be looking to inflict damage on Guardiola’s men at the Etihad, who lost their most recent league game in what was their first loss of the season.

> “I trained with the best players in the world and they are good memories but at the moment I am thinking about Everton because this was three, four, five years ago.

> “They are good memories but it is in the past. I think about my future and not the past.

> “It was a big moment and a big memory and it is always in my heart but I want to achieve with Everton.”

Everton travel to Manchester on Saturday, before visiting Burnley the following week.
