# Emre Can move to Dortmund now looks unlikely

Sky Italia ([via Sky Sports Transfer Centre](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre)) report that it is looking more and more difficult for Emre Can to join Borussia Dortmund this month.

The Juventus midfielder was named as an Everton target earlier in the transfer window, with [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calciomercato/17-01-2020/ancelotti-chiama-emre-can-l-everton-puo-spendere-ma-c-problema-360182619875.shtml) reporting that Carlo Ancelotti had been determined to sign the former Liverpool man.

Everton looked to have lost out on the 26-year old last week however, when [Sky Germany](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/emre-can-wird-juventus-turin-im-winter-auf-jeden-fall-verlassen/11915211/34130?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&wkz=WXTSL1&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1579719489) reported that Borussia Dortmund had emerged as front-runners for his signature, with Can keen on returning to the Bundesliga.

However Sky Italia ([via Sky Sports Transfer Centre](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre)) now report that with Dortmund still yet to make an official offer for the Germany international, who Juventus want between £21million and £25million for, a move now looks unlikely.

The report claims that Dortmund need to sell striker Paco Alcacer, and potentially one other player, before they can afford to buy Can.

Everton are still interested in signing a midfielder this month, and should Juventus become desperate to ship him out before the transfer deadline, it will be interesting to see if the Toffees (or Spurs) reignite interest.

With Carlo Ancelotti having expressed that “[Sky are wrong](https://readeverton.com/2020/01/20/ancelotti-plays-down-everton-transfer-rumours/)” in his pre-match press conference before Newcastle earlier this month, it is unclear how interested in Emre Can Everton really were, if at all.

Should they have held an interest though, as many outlets in Italy claim, then the Blues could be buoyed by the news that Dortmund can’t line up a deal, if they are still keen on bringing a midfielder to Goodison Park.

With Andre Gomes still a way off reaching match fitness, and with JP Gbamin’s return date a complete mystery, the Toffees need to add depth in that area, and while Emre Can might be hesitant due to his relationship with the Reds on Merseyside, a short-term deal could benefit him, as he wants minutes ([Mail Online](https://dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7899187/Juventus-star-Emre-open-January-amid-Manchester-Utd-interest.html)) before the Euro 2020 tournament this summer.
