Everton 2-0 West Ham United: Five things we learned

Romelu Lukaku scored his ninth goal in as many appearances against West Ham, with Everton returning to winning ways with a 2-0 win.

The Blues took the brunt of pressure from West Ham early in the game, managing Dimitri Payet, Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini well and preventing any outstanding pieces of brilliance that all three are capable of producing.

Much was made of Lukaku’s goalscoring record in the build-up to the clash and the Belgian delivered yet again, turning in Yannick Bolasie’s cross after some perseverance.

Everton went back under pressure following the forward’s goal, Antonio going closest after a slip from Ashley Williams but Ramiro Funes Mori blocked the effort.

The Toffees then sealed the win through Ross Barkley after some brilliant work from Lukaku yet again, bursting up the right wing and swinging in a pin-point cross to Barkley who prodded home at the far post.

Everton will face Chelsea at Stamford bridge next weekend, but here are the five things we learned from today’s game.

matchday.
