# Everton 2-1 Newcastle – Everton Player Ratings

Carlo Ancelotti continued his excellent start to life as Everton boss, overseeing his second successive Premier League win as Dominic Calvert-Lewin put a brace past Newcastle.

Everton were extremely lively in the early stages of the game, and had they been more clinical, they could have been several goals to the good inside the opening 20.

Calvert-Lewin did grab his first goal in that period though, stabbing home after Gylfi Sigurdsson volleyed the rebound of his own free-kick into the box, with the ball laying off well for the 22-year old.

Newcastle grew into the game, creating a number of opportunities, although none led to a clear-cut goalscoring chance.

While Newcastle continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, Andy Carroll eventually made it count, disrupting Everton’s defence enough for Fabian Schar to smash the ball past Jordan Pickford.

Calvert-Lewin grabbed his second and the match winner after the hour mark, with Richarlison storming forward and laying the ball in his path. DCL mishit his shot, but it crossed the line, and that is all that matters.
