# Everton 2-2 Leicester (2-4 Pens) – Everton Player Ratings

Everton’s Carabao Cup campaign came to a close in agonising fashion against Leicester at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

The Toffees were the underdogs going into the game against the Premier League’s second-place side, and Brendan Rodgers’ men didn’t take long to impose themselves.

James Maddison whipped a strike past Jordan Pickford and Jonny Evans poked in from a corner to give the Foxes a 2-0 lead at half-time, with it looking like Leicester had the game wrapped up neatly in the opening 45.

Everton however weren’t prepared to take defeat lying down, a mentality instilled by caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson, with the Blues fighting back in the second half.

Tom Davies hooked a shot past Kasper Schmeichel following Richarlison’s earlier cross, and with minutes left on the clock, Leighton Baines rolled back the years with a thunderous shot from distance to bring the scores level.

Despite Jordan Pickford having saved James Maddison’s opening penalty for Leicester, consecutive misses from Cenk Tosun and Baines handed the away side the advantage, with the Foxes going on to win 4-2 on penalties, dumping the Blues out of the competition.

Despite being out of the cup, the club can take solace in the fact that the players showed real heart and determination to get back into the game. Here’s how we rated the players:
