# Everton bid for Iwobi – Would he be the right man for Silva?

Everton have had an offer of £30million rejected by Arsenal for versatile forward Alex Iwobi, [according to talkSPORT](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1159057120437919744).

The Arsenal forward had spoken about potentially leaving the Emirates earlier in the transfer window, with the signing of Nicholas Pepe sure to see him fall further down the pecking order under Unai Emery.

With Everton having struggled to negotiate a fee to sign Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, Iwobi is seen as an alternative option with Marco Silva still keen on bringing a winger to the club before the transfer deadline, and expectations are that the Toffees will return with another bid for the Nigeria international.

The 23-year old scored three times in 35 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season.

### Read Everton Verdict

Iwobi represents an underwhelming downgrade on Wilfried Zaha, which will inevitably see negativity brew on Everton Twitter. While Iwobi isn’t a bad player, and he would certainly add more squad depth, it is the difference between expectation and reality that will cause the must frustration.

Alongside Zaha, Everton have been linked with the likes of David Neres, an exciting Brazil international who impressed during the previous campaign. Iwobi isn’t the same kind of signing, and that will inevitably cause some upset.

That being said, Iwobi certainly represents better value for money than Zaha. With other positions still in need of strengthening, and Everton certainly preparing to spend more money in January, the additional cash left over will likely be better used in other areas.
