# Everton must have a replacement in mind if they let Cenk Tosun leave on loan

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored [14 goals in 18 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/everton-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/29/plus/0?reldata=%262020) across the board this season, but Everton’s [second-highest scorer Richarlison](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/everton-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/29/plus/0?reldata=%262020) only has five goals from 14 games, so Carlo Ancelotti needs a better supporting act for the England target man.

Moise Kean was [loaned out to Paris Saint-Germain](https://theathletic.com/news/everton-transfer-moise-kean-psg/VcILKbzAj3eJ) for the season, so Ancelotti only has [Cenk Tosun](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/18/cenk-tosun-could-leave-everton-for-west-brom-sam-allardyce/) to call upon instead of Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison [at centre-forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/kadernachposition/verein/29). The 29-year-old hasn’t scored a Premier League goal [since January](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cenk-tosun/alletore/spieler/45671), so Ancelotti should perhaps identify an upgrade when the winter transfer window opens.

Tosun returned from injury in November but has only amassed [33 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cenk-tosun/leistungsdaten/spieler/45671) of league football in the last two months, so it’s clear that he [doesn’t have his manager’s trust](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/18/cenk-tosun-could-leave-everton-for-west-brom-sam-allardyce/).

Indeed, he was linked by the *[Sunday People](https://www.pressreader.com/uk/sunday-mirror/20201227/281500753862918/textview)* (via [West Brom News](https://www.westbromnews.co.uk/2020/12/28/west-brom-want-everton-player-on-loan-in-january-toffees-paid-27m-for-international-report/)) with a potential loan move to West Brom next month in order to reinvigorate his career, having [gone out to Crystal Palace](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2020/january/cenk-tosun-joins-crystal-palace-on-loan-from-everton/) for a spell in the equivalent window last season.

The Turkish international’s [woeful scoring form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cenk-tosun/alletore/spieler/45671) in the last 12 months highlights why he is struggling for minutes at Goodison Park, but Everton have missed a trick by not replacing him in the summer transfer window.

### READ EVERTON VERDICT

Ancelotti doesn’t have a deep bench in Calvert-Lewin’s absence, so you would expect a striker to be on the agenda in the coming days and weeks.

Napoli’s [Arkadiusz](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9064929/Napoli-demand-15million-Euros-Tottenham-summer-target-Arkadiusz-Milik.html) [Milik](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/19/everton-could-sign-arkadiusz-milik-for-knockdown-fee/) and Reims’ [Boulaye Dia](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1372785/Arsenal-Everton-transfer-battle-Kylian-Mbappe-SNT) are reported to be on Everton’s transfer radar, but the Toffees could find themselves linked with a lot of players next month.

Going another transfer window without signing a striker would only heap the burden on Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to stay fit. While a loan exit for Tosun might be helpful, it should only be sanctioned if Everton have someone lined up to come straight in.
