# Everton consider Moyes to replace Silva – a huge backwards step

David Moyes is one of the names in the frame to replace Marco Silva if he is sacked, according to reports.

The former Everton boss is currently out of work after leaving West Ham in May 2018, and [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-ex-everton-boss-in-contention-to-replace-marco-silva/), the Toffees would consider appointing him once again.

[Football Insider also reported](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-major-everton-manager-update-as-board-set-sights-on-53-yr-old/) earlier today that Laurent Blanc was another manager being considered by Everton, [while we covered the news](https://readeverton.com/?p=33095) earlier that Ajax’s Erik ten Hag was considered the prime target.

Either way, it appears as though plenty is riding on Everton’s result against West Ham following the international break, with Silva on the brink of being replaced.

Moyes is likely to be a name that divides fans considerably, with many keen to remember the ‘glory days’ under the Scotsman, while others are happy to put them behind the club.

It looks set to be an interesting few weeks for Everton fans, that is for sure.

### Read Everton Verdict

There seems to be two camps to fall into regarding Moyes. You either respect what he did for the club and therefore don’t hate the bloke, or you slam him for leaving the club in the manner that he did. I’m the former, and I cannot lambaste a manager who did so much to take Everton to where it is now as a club and as a business.

However, if Everton appoint Moyes as Silva’s successor I might give up football and quit my job, because I cannot bare to watch and write about Moyes’ Everton in 2019, 2020 or any year afterward.

It would ultimately be a backwards step made purely out of sentimentality. Had Moyes never managed the club before, he wouldn’t be considered full stop, and that is where the problem lies. Everton need the best man for the job, not the man they know from before.

For my money it is Erik ten Hag, as mentioned in the story written above. But I’d rather take Blanc or some other name than backtrack and peddle a relic of the past in the Goodison Park dugout.
