# Everton ‘cool negotiations’ over Reinier deal – Positive sign for the club?

Everton have reportedly cooled their negotiations with Flamengo for starlet Reinier, according to reports.

The Toffees had been linked with a big money move for the talented teenager for much of the transfer window, with the club said to be waiting until January, where he would then be 18, so a deal could go through.

The Blues were said to be willing to pay €40million to land the promising midfielder, who has also been chased by a number of other elite clubs this summer.

However, according to Globo Esport ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-cool-negotiations-promising-youngster-want-make-careful-evaluation/)), Everton have taken their foot off the pedal for the time being and will prepare to consider a ‘more careful evaluation’ of the player and his worth.

This doesn’t mean the club have given up or moved on, only that they want to be careful in investing such a large sum into an untested youngster.

Reinier’s contract with Flamengo expires in December 2020, and with every day that goes by the Brazilian club’s power of negotiation is dwindling, with the midfielder able to sign a pre-contract in less than a year.

As with many young talents to come from South America, I don’t know much about Reinier, other than Everton reportedly hold interest and he’s talented. What I do know is that it is a good sign that Everton are being more considerate when spending funds.

Brands has done a phenomenal job so far in targeting fresh recruits, but Everton need to be careful not to splash too much cash on unproven potential, so to hear the club are being more careful is a hugely positive sign.

I’m not sure whether he’ll come in, and how much impact he’ll be expected to make from the off, but I’m excited to see what happens.
