# Everton dealt blow in Morelos pursuit

Everton’s transfer plans may have been dealt a blow with Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson claiming that the the club are in a position where they do not have to sell any of their prized assets.

There has been plenty of transfer speculation relating to Rangers’ star striker Alfredo Morelos, who has become somewhat of a goal machine in Glasgow.

[Everton are one such club to have been linked](https://readeverton.com/2019/11/12/stubbs-tips-everton-to-sign-rangers-striker-morelos/) with the prolific Colombian, while some pundits have also tipped the club to make a move for the 23-year old.

The Toffees are in need of a more consistent striker, with Cenk Tosun’s future uncertain, Richarlison’s future out wide, and with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean struggling for form and consistency.

However, if Everton had thought to pursue the Rangers’ hit-man, Wilson has dealt the club a blow by declaring that no one will leave Ibrox in January unless Rangers decide to let them go.

When asked if he could confirm that Rangers did not need to sell their biggest assets in January, as [reported by BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50409392), Wilson said:

> Categorically. We want our best players to stay here as long as they possibly can.
>
> We understand that, like every other club in world football, there comes a point when players have to move on to something else for a variety of reasons.
>
> We’ll be no different to that, but it’s certainly not on the horizon in January.
>
> The first-team has a number of players who could be really interesting for a number of clubs because the club is in a significantly better position than it was before and a lot of that is down to the recruitment and the work Steven \[Gerrard\] and the coaching staff have done with the players.

### Read Everton Verdict

For some fans I am sure this is good news, or neutral news, with Morelos not the most popular of targets across the board.

However the Colombian would have certainly added pedigree to Everton’s squad, and likely for a respectable enough price tag.

Everton do need to persist with their younger players, particularly Moise Kean, but if they are set on spending money on a forward in January, this does now appear to be one less name on Marco Silva’s spreadsheet.
