The Blues entered the competition in the second round, where they saw off Rotherham United in a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park last night.

Now they will face the Saints, who they have already beaten this season, winning 2-1 in their first Goodison Park fixture of the season.

Marco Silva stated in his Rotherham programme notes that he is indeed taking the cup seriously this season, and Everton will hope the competition can bring to an end a lengthy silverware drought.
