Everton end Yarmolenko pursuit?

Everton have cooled their pursuit of Andriy Yarmolenko and are now looking at other targets, according to Sky Sports.

Yarmolenko seemed likely to become an Everton player last week as the Blues were prepared to pay his release clause, believed to be in the region of £15million, but they haven’t been able to agree with Dynamo Kyiv thus far, although the deal is not completely dead.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is in the last year of his deal at his hometown club and seemed open to a move to the Premier League, but talks over a move have reportedly stalled.

Everton are still hell-bent on bringing in a playmaker and have earmarked Shakhtar Donetsk’s Bernard and Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj as targets for the role.

Bernard moved to Shakthar two years ago and was in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup last year, but at 5ft 3 he may struggle with the physicality of the Premier League.

Some Ukrainian journalists and commentators believe Everton’s reported interest of Bernard is merely a smokescreen and a tactic from the club to put pressure on Kyiv.

Januzaj has been on Roberto Martinez’s radar for quite some time, but Louis Van Gaal has shown faith in the young Belgian by starting him in United’s last four matches.

West Ham and Juventus are also interested in the 20-year-old, who can play anywhere behind the striker.

Everton need to do business and quickly, with just a week to go until the end of the transfer window.
