# Everton fans debate midfield options ahead of Blades clash

While it is better to have a stacked squad than to not have enough options to fall back on, it can also sometimes prove to be problematic when naming a starting line-up.

With Andre Gomes and JP Gbamin out injured, Everton have four midfield options to chose from to start the club’s Premier League tie against Sheffield United on Saturday; Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The four are all very different in their style of play, and Marco Silva will have trouble appeasing all fans in naming his preferred players to start against the Blades, with the Toffees desperate to get back on track.

Delph and Schneiderlin started against Bournemouth on Sunday, while Sigurdsson sat in front of the holding duo. The Cherries won 3-1 at Dean Court, leaving fans with questions over what the best system would be for the Blues to play.

Delph’s early performances since signing from Manchester City this summer have seemingly cemented his place in the line-up, and several fans took to Twitter to debate who should partner him.

Who should start in midfield for Everton against the Blades?

### Read Everton Verdict

For my money, I like the idea of dropping Sigurdsson deeper. There is no reason why Everton need to have two defensive minded holding midfielders against a newly promoted outfit at home, it just screams negativity from the off.

Bernard deserves a re-call as he wasn’t dropped for any discernible reason other than someone needed to make way for Alex Iwobi’s inclusion, so he could fit in nicely either on the left or behind the striker, with Iwobi occupying the other position.

It is a more positive axis that would add more creativity to Everton’s attack. However, I don’t expect Silva to go for the idea, so I’d be fine with seeing Davies start over Schneiderlin. At least the England youth international isn’t so defensive.
