# Everton fans firmly don’t want Barton as future Toffees manager

Many Everton fans have rejected the thought of Joey Barton becoming manager of the club in the future.

[We covered the story yesterday](https://readeverton.com/2019/11/27/joey-barton-reveals-future-ambition-to-manage-everton/) that detailed how boyhood Evertonian Barton had claimed that he would one day like to become manager of the Toffees, should he continue to develop as a coach.

Currently Fleetwood Town boss in League One, Barton has begun to forge a reputation as a young manager with potential, leading Town to a mid-table finish in his first full season.

Prior to facing Everton’s Under-21s in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday, Barton revealed that he harbours ambition to one day become the club’s head coach, saying:

> It’s a job that in the future, as an Evertonian, you would like to take.
>
> I look at some of the people who have had the job, and I think that if I keep progressing and moving forward, it’s somewhere you’d hold dear to your heart.
>
> Although I never played there, I have great memories of watching as a kid.

When asked whether fans would take Barton as manager at Goodison Park down the line, many supporters responded on social media with a resounding dismissal of the former midfielder’s ambitions.

> Twitter: @ReadEverton He only thinks he’s got a chance because we lowered the bar so much by employing Allardyce. (@scepticrealist)

### Read Everton Verdict

I agree with the sentiments expressed, of course.

Barton’s reputation would drag Everton down, and the club don’t need that. They need professionalism and someone who would demand respect, not ridicule.

If Barton has turned his attitude around in twenty years time then we’ll have a different situation, but currently there is no chance.
