# Everton fans poke fun at Delph following injury status update

Several Everton fans have poked fun at Fabian Delph after the midfielder was named as a doubt for the club’s game against Liverpool this weekend.

Speaking prior to Everton’s FA Cup third round tie against the Reds that is due to be played at Anfield on Sunday, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Delph was a doubt, and that he would have to be assessed late on to determine whether he could play.

The England international started and played the duration of the Toffees’ game against Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday, but his possible absence wouldn’t be the first time he has picked up a knock this season.

Delph has only managed 11 games in the Premier League for Everton this season, and with several other midfielders including Andre Gomes and JP Gbamin being out for the long-term, fans are growing frustrated with Delph’s frequent injury problems leaving the club short of options.

Following Ancelotti’s claims that Delph has a “problem with his knee”, several fans have taken to Twitter to poke fun at Delph’s inability to stay fit.

Fabian Delph’s signing was always divisive initially, but the England international quickly proved his worth with some of his opening performances for the club. However, his fitness record has made many reconsider their position.

With the club already struggling with a number of key players having suffered major injuries this season, Delph was needed to step up, and his constant lack of fitness has become a concern for many who now deem the midfielder unreliable.

Of course, to some degree it isn’t his fault, as he doesn’t choose to be sidelined through fitness concerns. However, Everton cannot continue to carry someone who is on the sidelines so often. They’ve done it before, but they can no longer afford to.
