# Everton fans see silver lining in the Toffees loss to Manchester City

Everton can take many positives from their defeat to Manchester City, despite having lost their second successive home game.

The Toffees went 1-0 down to a fantastically executed City goal midway through the first half, where Riyad Mahrez’s trickery and Kevin De Bruyne’s excellent pinpoint cross found the daring header of Gabriel Jesus.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin brought the Blues back on level terms not long after, with Seamus Coleman’s goal-bound chipped shot being tucked away by the striker on the line, taking his recent tally to four goals in three games.

Mahrez got on the scoresheet in the second half, angling a free-kick past Jordan Pickford who could have done better, and Raheem Sterling added a third late on, firing a shot off the underside of the crossbar, with goal-line technology confirming it had crossed the line.

Despite the loss, many Everton fans saw the positive signs, particularly in Everton’s willingness to fight and in the Toffees having created copious chances, taking to Twitter to express their thoughts on the performance.

### Read Everton Verdict

I think Everton were much improved against Manchester City, and despite some fans still calling for Silva’s head, I think it is too harsh a call.

Everton created chances, and they were unlucky not to come off. Sometimes football boils down to luck, and Everton didn’t have enough of it today, but they were still a much better time that fought tooth and nail to get back into the contest.

To suggest that Everton needed to do better against the best team in the world is slightly overly optimistic.
