# Everton have made approach to sign Sampdoria midfielder Vieira

Everton have made an approach to sign Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everton-make-approach-to-sign-ronaldo-in-sensational-late-swoop/).

West Ham [were also said to be interested](https://footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everton-make-approach-to-sign-ronaldo-in-sensational-late-swoop/) in the 21-year old, who came through Leeds’ academy before signing with the Serie A side in 2018, however the Hammers ultimately elected to move for Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek.

The England Under-21s international is available for around £14million this month, [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everton-make-approach-to-sign-ronaldo-in-sensational-late-swoop/), who claim that there is a growing possibility that Vieira will return to England.

[FI also claim](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everton-make-approach-to-sign-ronaldo-in-sensational-late-swoop/) that Carlo Ancelotti is an admirer of the midfielder, who he would have come up against in Seria A during his time with Napoli, with Vieira being a regular for Sampdoria.

Everton are in need of a midfielder before the transfer window closes on Friday, and with a deal for Inter midfielder [Matias Vecino now looking unlikely](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/vecino-inter-calciomercato-news-28-gennaio-2020), the club could turn their attention to Vieira.

### Read Everton Verdict

Vieira has been a regular for Sampdoria this season, playing 18 times in Serie A for the Italian outfit ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317179/Show/Ronaldo-Vieira)), and he could represent the cost-effective target that Everton have been looking for.

Described by [Football Insider](https://footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everton-make-approach-to-sign-ronaldo-in-sensational-late-swoop/) as an ‘athletic and industrious midfielder’, Vieira would be a promising signing as he is still extremely young at just 21-years old, but he also has the experience that would allow him to immediately help the first team, having played over 100 times in his senior career.

Whereas Matias Vecino had been a target who didn’t appear to be profitable in the future, Everton would be investing in a young midfielder in Vieira who could be sold on for significant profit in the future, or could shape himself into Everton’s squad for the long-term.

[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronaldo-vieira/profil/spieler/434676) describe Vieira as a box-to-box midfielder, who has the capabilities to play both as a defensive midfielder and as an attacking midfielder, and that versatility would also be crucial to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who don’t possess many utility players.

Everton would likely be considered a step-up from Sampdoria, who are labouring just above the relegation zone in the Italian top flight, and I would be intrigued to see Everton shore up their interest.
