# Everton interest in Everton Soares ‘kept alive’ by club meeting

Everton are still interested in Gremio forward Everton Soares this month, with [UOL](https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/de-primeira/2020/01/22/gremio-everton-ainda-estuda-proposta-para-levar-cebolinha.htm) ([via Star Sport](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/everton-transfer-meeting-keeps-alive-21339209)) reporting that a club meeting last week kept talks ‘alive’.

[Gazeta Esportiva](https://www.gazetaesportiva.com/times/gremio/ancelotti-liga-para-cebolinha-e-clube-ingles-prepara-oferta/) first mentioned that Everton were considering a move for their namesake in January, with the Toffees said to have been preparing a €30million offer.

While Carlo Ancelotti recently spoke ([Mail Online](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7830301/Ancelotti-reveals-NOT-target-striker-Jan-discuss-signings-FA-Cup-clash.html)) about how he wasn’t keen on signing a striker this month, Everton Soares mostly operates as a left-sided winger who can play on the right-hand side ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/everton/leistungsdaten/spieler/321239)), the latter position of which Marcel Brands specifically mentioned at Everton’s AGM is in need of strengthening ([Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marcel-brands-explains-everton-transfer-17568853)).

[Brazilian outlet UOL](https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/de-primeira/2020/01/22/gremio-everton-ainda-estuda-proposta-para-levar-cebolinha.htm) ([via Star Sport](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/everton-transfer-meeting-keeps-alive-21339209)) claim that Everton are preparing to make an offer for the 23-year old forward before the end of the month, following a club meeting last week that ‘kept alive’ the interest in the player.

Gremio are currently suffering financial difficulties, and so the club are believed to be open to selling the Brazil international.

### Read Everton Verdict

Other than the obvious reasons to sign Everton Soares, that being the excellent marketing opportunity, the Brazilian would add a certain pedigree to Ancelotti’s side. Described as having ‘very strong’ dribbling and finishing ability by [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/146760/Show/Everton), the 23-year old would be able to provide cover in a variety of positions, being able to play on the left, right or through the centre.

Everton do, of course, need to prioritise other positions, with a centre-back and a central midfielder absolutely paramount for the club’s immediate future. However, should the club have the ability and the resources to strengthen their weakened right-hand side, Everton Soares would be a player who I’d be interested to see the Blues go after.
