# Everton monitoring Jean-Philippe Mateta as January exit becomes increasingly likely – report

**Everton are reportedly monitoring Jean-Philippe Mateta’s situation at Crystal Palace as the striker considers his future ahead of the January transfer window.**

The 29-year-old is said to favour remaining in the Premier League if he leaves Selhurst Park, with Nottingham Forest and Manchester United also credited with an interest.

## Everton keeping watch on Mateta

According to [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/nottingham-forest-man-utd-jean-philippe-mateta-crystal-palace-striker-chooses-next-destination-exclusive), [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) are monitoring developments closely, although there is currently no suggestion that the Toffees have made an approach or opened talks with Palace. Mateta’s future has been uncertain for some time. He pushed for a move earlier this year and came close to joining AC Milan before the proposed transfer collapsed, while his contract situation has since become another point of contention.

His current Palace deal runs until June 2027 after the club activated an additional year. Mateta challenged the validity of that extension, but the contract remains in place after FIFA ruled that overturning it was outside its jurisdiction.

TEAMtalk now reports that his representatives are working to identify a suitable destination and that a January departure is increasingly viewed as realistic. Forest are assessing a move and Manchester United retain an interest, while clubs elsewhere in Europe and Saudi Arabia are also said to be monitoring developments. Mateta’s preference to remain in the Premier League could be significant if Palace decide to sell. With his contract due to expire next summer, January would also provide the club with another opportunity to receive a fee rather than risk losing him for nothing.

## Only watching … for now

For Everton, the link comes with David Moyes continuing to assess his options in attack. Thierno Barry has carried much of the responsibility through the middle this season, and the Toffees have already been linked with several forwards ahead of the January window. Mateta would bring considerable Premier League experience, having established himself as Palace’s first-choice centre-forward in recent seasons.

There is no indication yet that Everton’s interest has developed beyond monitoring his situation. With Mateta seemingly considering his options and several Premier League clubs watching developments, however, his future could become clearer as January approaches.
