# Everton Keen on Signing Fernando Llorente

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente could be set for a move back to Spain, with Athletic Bilbao touted as a likely destination amid links with Everton.

[According to Tuttomercato](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-radio-ag-rugani-via-dalla-juventus-anche-per-soldi-non-e-mai-stato-valutato-50-milioni-1452102), the 35-year-old ex-Spurs forward is likely to depart current club Napoli in January and could rejoin the Basque side, for whom he featured between [2005 and 2013](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/profil/spieler/35564).

The Napoli man was a stalwart for Bilbao, [scoring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/profil/spieler/35564) 111 goals and managing 26 assists in 327 outings for the Basque outfit. The Spaniard has struck [177 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/35564) over the course of an illustrious career.

Llorente is current something of an outcast, having [yet to make an appearance for his club so far this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/leistungsdaten/spieler/35564).

Napoli have since indicated that they are willing to let the veteran striker leave, and Bilbao will revisit their interest having attempted to bring him back to La Liga during the summer window.

Everton were also previously linked with the striker over the summer as a backup option to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as reported by [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/)(04/10/2020, p. 72), who [lacks a potent alternative](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/leistungsdaten/verein/29) to challenge with him for the centre-forward role.

### Read Everton Verdict

This could well be a shrewd move by Everton – if they are able to fend off their competitors for Llorente’s signature.

Given that Everton will also face heavy competition for [reported target](https://readeverton.com/2020/10/26/toffees-eye-move-for-prolific-polish-striker-arkadiusz-milik/) Arkadiusz Milik, Llorente could be a useful alternative target if a January or summer move for Milik materialises elsewhere.

Regardless, the veteran seems likely to leave Napoli along with Milik and a move for either striker would boost Ancelotti’s formidable attacking options.
