Everton keen on United stalwart

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is looking at bringing Michael Carrick to Goodison Park, according to the Mirror.

The veteran hasn’t been offered a new contract at Old Trafford, with his current deal running out this summer.

Martinez is keen to capitalise on United’s lack of action and is confident of bringing Carrick to Merseyside.

The United man has featured heavily for the Red Devils this season but is nearing 35 and could be moved on after a decade with the Mancunian giants.

Carrick has a similar playing style to that of Gareth Barry, who is also in the twilight years of his career.

The former Manchester City star has been one of Everton’s best players and was sorely missed last weekend, when Everton were outclassed and outfought by Arsenal.

With the arrival of Farhad Moshiri and the promise of a sizeable transfer kitty, the potential of Carrick may disappoint a few Everton fans but it remains to be seen if the Toffeemen’s interest ends up in a formal offer.
