# Everton linked with a move for Joe Bryan

Everton are competing to sign Bristol City’s £7 million-rated defender Joe Bryan this month, reports [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-sanchez-medical-11886639?service=responsive).

Sam Allardyce is desperate to invest in a new left-back with Leighton Baines still injured and coming into the last years of his career. Summer signing Cuco Martina has been covering for Baines in his absence but has not filled the position with much success.

Bryan, 24, has also received interest from Brighton and Newcastle, but Everton will be hoping that their relegation fears will hand them an advantage when pursuing their man.

Bryan has impressed at left-back this season for Bristol City, who sit 5th in the EFL Championship. The star player also scored a wonder goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in Bristol City’s cup win against Manchester United. Bryan’s goal was one of four he has managed this season.

Bryan will be hoping to impress again and invite further interest when his side host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Tuesday.

Everton have had a difficult season so far but the additions of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott implies Allardyce is eager to turn Everton’s fortunes around and a left-sided defender is a critical factor in improving their season.
