# Everton Linked with Matias Vecino; Toffees Remain Uninterested

Uruguyan midfielder Matias Vecino is again being linked with a switch to Goodison Park, although Everton are not understood to be formally interested in the player.

The Inter Milan midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Ancelotti’s side in the January winter window by[reports across Italy](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-matias-vecino-inter-milan-transfer-january-ancelotti/), though a move never materialised. The veteran Italian tactician was reportedly a huge fan of the midfielder.

For a variety of reasons, the move never happened – Everton instead elected to stay out of the January transfer window and focus on the summer period to rejuvenate their team instead.

Vecino himself was a factor; the Uruguayan opted to remain at Inter and fight for his place under Antonio Conte.

[According to FC Inter News](https://www.fcinternews.it/esclusive/i-fcin-i-vecino-torino-pista-in-salita-l-uruguagio-vuole-riprendersi-l-inter-in-alternativa-le-idee-sono-chiare-351852) via [SportWitness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-matias-vecino-inter-milan-transfer-january-ancelotti/), Vecino does indeed desire to fight for his place at Inter but if the club and Conte *‘put him at the door’* then he will consider leaving in January.

Were Vecino to effectively be forced out at Inter, he would prefer a *‘top-tier club’* that plays in Europe and the website claims there are several likely suitors that could swoop.

Sevilla are one such club as Director of Football Monchi is an *‘admirer*, but the Premier League is touted as an option as the midfielder has been linked with a move there on numerous occasions.

There is no suggestion Everton remain interested, though that may change if Vecino finds himself in a new set of circumstances.

The report claims there is no *‘rush’* because the player is determined to get back to full fitness and ‘win back Inter’ before moving elsewhere.

### Read Everton Verdict

Everton are justified in withholding any interest.

Vecino, as a holding midfielder, would find competition to be extremely intense. Summer signings Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan are joined by Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes as existing options, meaning the midfielder would find it tough to hold down a regular spot.

For player and club, it is probably for the best that Vecino avoids Goodison Park.
