The 21-year old, who has been with the club since he was seven, spent last season on loan with Barnsley, scoring once in 38 appearances for the Tykes.

It had been [reported](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joe-williams-quickly-impressing-marco-14901495) earlier this summer that Williams had been impressed manager Marco Silva in training, but with competition in midfield fierce, Everton have decided another season-long loan spell in the Championship would best aid his development.

Williams could potentially make his debut for the Trotters on Saturday, when the club travel to Preston North End.
