# Everton loan offer for Smalling rejected – Manchester United fan reaction

Everton have had a loan offer for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling rejected, [according to Sky Sports News](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre).

Marco Silva is determined to sign a centre-back before the transfer window closes on Thursday, with Kurt Zouma yet to be replaced following the expiry of his loan agreement with Chelsea.

While Chelsea have been playing hard-ball over a permanent transfer, Everton have been forced to consider other targets, with Smalling seemingly the man chosen.

However United have shot the offer down, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claiming that the England international is a integral part of his squad alongside Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

If the reaction to the news of Manchester United’s rejection by these United fans is anything to go by, missing out on Chris Smalling isn’t necessarily a bad thing for Everton.

While some fans were quick to express their disbelief that United turned down such a positive opportunity from a United perspective, others were keen to voice their displeasure at Solskjaer’s decision to consider Smalling an integral player.

While we don’t know if Everton will return with another proposal, potentially on a permanent basis, it appears that so far Everton have dodged an almost self-inflicted bullet.
