# Everton look to have missed out on Emre Can to Dortmund

Everton look to have missed out on signing Emre Can this month, with [Sky Germany claiming](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/emre-can-wird-juventus-turin-im-winter-auf-jeden-fall-verlassen/11915211/34130?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&wkz=WXTSL1&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1579719489) that Borussia Dortmund are close to securing the midfielder.

The Toffees have been chasing the German midfielder for the past week if reports are to be believed, with [Tuttosport claiming](https://www.tuttosport.com/news/calcio/calciomercato/2020/01/22-65863092/juve_emre_can_il_borussia_tenta_il_last_minute/?a=2) recently that the club ‘seem willing’ to sign Emre Can on loan.

[Tuttosport also claimed](https://www.tuttosport.com/news/calcio/calciomercato/2020/01/22-65863092/juve_emre_can_il_borussia_tenta_il_last_minute/?a=2) that both Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund had joined the race to sign the former Liverpool man, and now [Sky Germany](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/emre-can-wird-juventus-turin-im-winter-auf-jeden-fall-verlassen/11915211/34130?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&wkz=WXTSL1&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1579719489) seem to believe that Dortmund have emerged as front-runners.

Emre Can has been desperate to leave Turin this month after being left out of Maurizio Sarri’s Champions League squad this season, and [Sky Germany claim](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/emre-can-wird-juventus-turin-im-winter-auf-jeden-fall-verlassen/11915211/34130?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&wkz=WXTSL1&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1579719489) that the 26-year old will take a pay-cut in order to join the Black and Yellows.

Everton will now need to turn their attention elsewhere, with Carlo Ancelotti keen on strengthening his midfield options before the transfer window closes.

### Read Everton Verdict

Emre Can was always likely to be an expensive player this month, with [Calciomercato reporting](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/everton-is-serious-the-offer-for-emre-can-is-ready-42711) that the club were considering a £30million offer to land the 26-year old. To that end, missing out on Can isn’t the worst issue financially for the club, as there will likely be cheaper alternatives available.

With [Ancelotti having rubbished](https://readeverton.com/2020/01/20/ancelotti-plays-down-everton-transfer-rumours/) paper speculation over reported targets in his pre-Newcastle press conference, it could still very much be the case that Everton were never interested in signing the German, which would now beg the question, who are Everton after?

The Toffees don’t have an abundance of time remaining of the transfer window to sign players, and the club need to find replacements in a number of key areas. Hopefully Ancelotti and Marcel Brands are pursuing players and are in negotiations for key targets behind the scenes, as we close in on the final days of the window.
