# Everton make contact with young French talent

Everton are interested in young Nantes midfielder Kamal Bafounta, according to French sources.

The 16-year old Frenchman is currently discussing a new deal with Nantes, but it looks likely that he could end up leaving the club this season for a mere pittance as a trainee, according to L’Equipe [last week](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Un-jeune-talent-nantais-vers-l-etranger/889188).

Bafounta has impressed this season, and has scored nine goals from 15 starts for the France Under-17s.

However, the player is said to be interested in leaving, with other clubs around Europe willing to offer him first-team football next season.

[According to L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Everton-se-place-pour-le-jeune-nantais-kamal-bafounta/892584), Everton currently lead the chase for the young midfielder, and are in talks with the player’s people, while Nantes are keen to secure the long-term future of their talented prospect.
