# Do Everton need a Sporting Director?

Recently, there has been a lot of talk of Everton appointing a director of football at the football club to continue their voyage as a modern football club under the new ownership of Farhad Moshiri. Names such as Joe Royle and Marc Overmars have been linked as well as the more recent ‘Monchi’ who could leave Sevilla in the summer.

### Why does Everton need one?

Appointing a new sporting director at the football club would basically make the day-to-day job of the new manager a lot easier. It could have made it easier for Roberto Martinez who was in full control of most aspects of the club. Many clubs have now adapted to this system including Ajax, Barcelona, Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Manchester City with many of the best coaches in world football preferring to work under this kind of hierarchy.

The role of the sporting director would also make the transition between managers much easier as well which will be very useful for Ronald Koeman as takes up the hot-seat at Goodison Park.

The sporting director would lay the foundations for any new manager who would simply just have to continue the philosophy of the club. This would prevent continuous overhauls of the style of play and the players who wear that famous royal blue shirt.

### Sooner rather than later

If Everton are wanting to reshape the club’s hierarchy then there’s no better time to do so. With a new owner and a new manager, it seems the perfect time to start fresh. The appointment of a sporting director would certainly attract more top players and with Ronald Koeman used to a similar model, it would certainly help the Dutchman.
