# Everton news: Óskarsson interest, Coleman verdict and £35m appeal concern

**It has been another busy day around [Everton](https://readeverton.com/), with January transfer plans, the club’s ownership situation and Thursday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Newcastle all providing talking points.**

Seamus Coleman has questioned Everton’s summer striker planning, while Real Sociedad forward Orri Óskarsson has emerged as a potential January target. There have also been fresh developments surrounding the £35m Burnley compensation case and The Friedkin Group’s plans for the club.

## Everton monitoring Óskarsson

Everton are reportedly monitoring Real Sociedad striker Óskarsson as David Moyes considers strengthening his options through the middle in January.

The 22-year-old Iceland captain has scored in his past three club appearances and is also attracting interest from several other Premier League sides. There is no suggestion Everton have made an offer, with the Blues currently reported to be keeping tabs on his progress.

## Coleman questions decision to sell Beto

The need for another striker was also highlighted by former Everton captain Seamus Coleman, who questioned why Beto was allowed to leave before a replacement had been secured.

A deadline-day move for Folarin Balogun subsequently collapsed, leaving Thierno Barry as Moyes’ only recognised senior centre-forward. Coleman praised the stability Moyes has brought but believes Everton supporters are entitled to expect more.

## Fresh claim over Friedkin plans

Football finance analyst Paul Quinn, better known as The Esk, has claimed UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules played a significant role in The Friedkin Group changing its plans for Everton.

Quinn says TFG initially believed it had a solution to the potential issue created by owning both Everton and Roma. The Friedkins have not publicly attributed their subsequent decision to explore new investment, including a possible controlling-interest sale, to UEFA.

## Burnley development puts £35m appeal back in focus

Burnley’s parent company, Velocity Capital (UK) Holdings Ltd, has received a compulsory strike-off notice after failing to file overdue accounts.

BBC Radio Merseyside journalist Giulia Bould highlighted the significance for Everton, who previously sought to have their £35m compensation payment protected pending an appeal. Everton had argued there was a risk the money might be difficult to recover if they eventually won their case.

## Everton wait on trio before Newcastle

Attention now turns towards Thursday night’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle at the Hill Dickinson.

Jarrad Branthwaite, Jack Grealish and Vitalii Mykolenko all have question marks over their availability. Branthwaite missed Arsenal under concussion protocols, Grealish was absent through illness, and Mykolenko was forced off at the Emirates, with no fresh Moyes injury bulletin issued on Wednesday.
