# Everton to open contract talks with Stones

Everton are looking to open contract talks with John Stones, [according to the Daily Mail.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3285495/Everton-keen-tie-John-Stones-new-contract-club-approach-defender-renegotiating-current-terms.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490)

The Blues have approached the coveted defender regarding his contract situation and are looking to tie him down on a new long-term deal.

The 21-year-old England star was the subject of an aggressive summer pursuit and four rejected bids from Premier League champions Chelsea, who were keen to buy him as a long-term replacement for skipper John Terry.

Stones has three-and-a-half years left on his current contract at Goodison Park and is believed to be earning £30,000-a-week.

But Chelsea were prepared to pay the Barnsley youth graduate in excess of £100,000-a-week, should he make a big money move to Stamford Bridge.

Roberto Martinez was adamant that Stones would not leave Merseyside and is now taking beginning the process of making sure he keeps his prized asset.

Stones has been in fine form for Everton this season but did request a transfer in the summer, whether he signs a new deal remains to be seen.
