# Everton player ratings v Arsenal: Pickford stands out in Emirates defeat

**[Everton](https://readeverton.com/) were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates as David Moyes’ side suffered a second successive Premier League defeat.**

Here are our Everton player ratings.

## Jordan Pickford – 7

Everton’s best player. Made several saves to prevent Arsenal from putting the game beyond doubt earlier and could do little about either goal.

## Merlin Röhl – 5

A difficult afternoon at right-back. Arsenal found plenty of space on his side, and he was unable to offer much going the other way. Did have one of Everton’s better first-half openings but could not make it count.

## James Tarkowski – 6

Stood up well to plenty of pressure and won his share of challenges. Everton spent too much of the game defending for Tarkowski to ever look completely comfortable.

## Jake O’Brien – 6

Back in the side with Branthwaite unavailable and did reasonably well. Had a tough job against Arsenal’s movement around the penalty area but produced some important defensive work.

## Vitalii Mykolenko – 6

Another steady performance from the left-back. Defended well for the most part and was one of the few Everton players who looked comfortable when Arsenal increased the pressure.

## James Garner – 6

Kept going and tried to get Everton playing when they won the ball back.

There was no shortage of effort, but Arsenal had too much control in midfield for Garner to have the influence he would have wanted.

## Harrison Armstrong – 6

Did not look out of place despite the quality of the opposition. Covered plenty of ground and competed well, although this was a game in which Everton’s midfield spent more time chasing Arsenal than dictating play.

## Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 6

Had some decent moments without ever taking control of the game. Kept looking for space and went close with a header late on, but Everton needed more from their attacking midfielders.

## Brennan Johnson – 5

A quiet game on his return to the starting XI. Everton needed Johnson to give them an outlet on the break, but he struggled to get involved often enough.

## Tyrique George – 5

Given his chance from the start but found it difficult to make much of an impression. Showed the odd glimpse of what he can offer, although Arsenal largely kept him away from the areas where he could cause problems.

## Thierno Barry – 5

Another frustrating afternoon. Barry was often left on his own against Arsenal’s centre-backs and received little service. He kept competing, but Everton never gave him enough to work with.

## Substitutes

### Tyler Dibling – 6

Brought some energy and was prepared to run at Arsenal. Everton were chasing the game by the time he came on, but Dibling at least tried to make something happen.

### Charly Alcaraz – 5

Could not have the impact Moyes was looking for. Saw some of the ball without finding a way through Arsenal’s defence.

### Hayden Hackney – 5

Another appearance from the bench but little opportunity to put his stamp on the game.

### Christian Nørgaard – 5

Still working his way towards full fitness and was unable to change the course of the match.

### Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 5
