# Everton preparing huge offer for Portuguese midfielder

Everton are said to be preparing a huge £31 million offer for Sporting Clube de Portugal midfielder William Carvalho.

[Record](https://www.record.pt/) claim that Ronald Koeman has sounded out the midfielder as a key part of his plans at Goodison Park, despite already investing so heavily in that area.

Everton have had scouts watching the player and keeping tabs on him this season.

The player was linked with a summer switch to West Ham throughout the transfer window, but the two clubs could not agree on a fee for the player.

Sporting were desperate to keep hold of him in the summer and their position has not changed.

If a deal was to be completed, Koeman may have to offload some players to make room for Carvalho.

James McCarthy, who has struggled to hold down a place since Koeman’s arrival, is attracting interest from Newcastle, West Brom and Crystal Palace.
