# Everton see Seri as Sigurdsson alternative

Everton have reportedly identified their backup plan if their pursuit of Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson falls through.

According to Guardian Sport’s deputy news editor Ed Aarons, the Toffees have chosen Jean Seri of OGC Nice as their alternative option if they cannot land the Iceland international.

Seri has a release clause of around £33m and Nice appear to be unwilling to negotiate for a fee lower than this, as they look to cling on to one of their key players.

The Ivory Coast international has gone from strength to strength since arriving on the Ligue 1 scene, and has subsequently caught the eye of a plethora of teams. All of Arsenal, Roma and Barcelona have been previously linked.

Everton are likely to continue pursuing Sigurdsson but Seri, despite being a different type of midfielder, is certainly a high-quality alternative.
