# Everton set to sign Bury prospect

Everton have beaten both Tottenham and Aston Villa to the signing of Bury youngster Matthew Foulds, [according to MailOnline](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3289730/Everton-sign-Bury-youngster-Matthew-Foulds-Roberto-Martinez-beats-Aston-Villa-Tottenham-sign-promising-star.html).

The 17-year-old is a left-sided centre-half and is tipped to have a good career ahead of him. The youngster has already played two senior games for Bury, and according to the League One club’s website is ‘a mobile centre back who reads the game well’.

This transfer bears resemblance to that of Mason Holgate, as Roberto Martinez attempts to recreate the development plan that was put in place for John Stones, and which has seen him become one of the most sought after defenders in the Premier League. Foulds also has the potential to play at full-back, similar to Brendan Galloway.

The MailOnline also explains that the youngster should adapt to life in Merseyside more easily than he would in London, allowing for his progress as a young defender to continue without interruption.

With Foulds, Galloway, Browning, Holgate, Stones and even Funes Mori, the future looks bright for the club’s defensive talent.
