# Everton set to sign Jordan Pickford in £17m deal

Everton look set to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for £17m this summer, according to a report from Scott Wilson of the [Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/15266047.Sunderland_goalkeeper_Jordan_Pickford_set_to_join_Everton_in_a___17m_deal/).

The 23-year-old has been one of the very few shining lights for Sunderland during what has been a terrible campaign under former Blues manager David Moyes but with the Black Cats’ relegation confirmed, the young goalkeeper will lead the exodus of players away from the Stadium of Light.

Pickford is reluctant to leave Sunderland as he’s been at the club since he was a schoolboy but he understands that a move to the Premier League is what is best for his career.

Pickford is hoping to be part of England’s 2018 World Cup squad and with competition fierce for the three goalkeeping places, playing regular Premier League football gives him the best chance of being on the plane to Russia.

Everton have both Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg on the books as first-team goalkeepers but neither has done much to prove that they are deserving of the number one jersey so it is little surprise to see Ronald Koeman making a move for a new shot stopper.
