# Everton should abandon interest in Under and consider Lozano move instead

Everton have once again been linked with a move for Roma winger Cengiz Under this summer, but the Blues should resist their interest and look elsewhere.

[Gazzetta di Parma](https://www.gazzettadiparma.it/sport/calcio/calciomercato/2020/03/18/news/roma_incertezza_sul_futuro_di_under-2953896/) ([translated by Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/roma-director-place-forward-everton-tottenham-hes-no-longer-non-transferable-serie-side/)) claim that Everton are showing strong interest in Under, with Roma [no longer considering him non-transferrable](https://sportwitness.co.uk/roma-director-place-forward-everton-tottenham-hes-no-longer-non-transferable-serie-side/), as they had previously labelled him.

The Turkey international has managed just nine starts in Serie A this season, having fallen out of favour under Paulo Fonseca, while he has managed just [three goals and zero assists in 20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cengiz-under/leistungsdaten/spieler/341647) total appearances.

Marcel [Brands explained at Everton’s AGM](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marcel-brands-explains-everton-transfer-17568853) in January that the club are in need of reinforcements on the right-side of midfield, and Under would certainly fulfil that remit as someone who is [naturally suited to the right](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cengiz-under/leistungsdaten/spieler/341647) side.

However, Under’s less than impressive goal contribution record this season could suggest that Everton are better off targeting a wide player who can pitch in with more goals.

In January, it was claimed that Roma [would accept £34million](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/everton/everton-toffees-line-up-summer-transfer-for-as-roma-winger-cengiz-under-in-fresh-report/) for the 22-year old, with his age likely to have played a major role in the Giallorossi’s valuation, and that is too much for Everton to spend on someone who would ultimately be a big gamble.

Hirving Lozano has [also been linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/man-utd-everton-koulibaly-allan-lozano-sale) with a move to Everton on a number of occasions, and while his goal contribution stats are [equally underwhelming](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hirving-lozano/leistungsdaten/spieler/316889) as Under’s, the Mexican has shown his ability in the past, while he already has a working relationship with both Carlo Ancelotti and Brands.

As such, Everton should spend big on Lozano instead of Under, if the club do decide to use a significant chunk of their summer budget on a right winger.
