# Everton stance on Vecino move unclear following conflicting reports

Conflicting reports of Everton’s protracted pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino have made the club’s stance on the Uruguayan unclear.

According to the print edition of [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/) on Tuesday ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/problem-everton-negotiations-toffees-offer-less-no-hurry-close/)), the Toffees have come to an impasse in their talks for the 28-year old midfielder.

[The report](https://sportwitness.co.uk/problem-everton-negotiations-toffees-offer-less-no-hurry-close/) claims that while Everton and Inter are in constant contact, and Vecino has given his approval needed for him to move to Merseyside, the two clubs cannot agree to a fee.

Inter are demanding €20million, having already dropped their valution from an initial €25million, but Everton’s are only offering less. The Toffees don’t want to pay Inter’s desired price, and the Nerazzurri don’t want to lower it, which [Gazzetta claims](https://sportwitness.co.uk/problem-everton-negotiations-toffees-offer-less-no-hurry-close/) is a ‘crush’ in the transfer negotiations.

Gazzetta also claim that the Blues are in ‘no hurry to close’ a deal, despite the transfer deadline being this Friday.

Meanwhile, Calciomercato ([via EvertonNewsFeed on Twitter](https://twitter.com/EvertonNewsFeed/status/1222085513034768384)) claim that Everton have reached an agreement with Inter for Vecino, with the two clubs agreeing to a €25million deal.

### Read Everton Verdict

From the off, [Calciomercato’s report](https://twitter.com/EvertonNewsFeed/status/1222085513034768384) doesn’t appear to make much sense. If others are reporting that Everton won’t pay €20million, it then makes it hard to believe the Toffees would agree to pay €25million, so I think we can rule that claim out.

Then we’re left with Everton falling short of Inter’s valuation, which is frustrating to say the least. Italian journalist [Alfredo Pedulla claims](https://www.alfredopedulla.com/%EF%BB%BFil-retroscena-vecino-everton-solo-alle-condizioni-dellinter/) that the club have already made offers amounting to €12million and €14million, and while the club may yet bid again, they don’t want to pay the full amount.

For a club said to have significant funds to spend this month ([Express Sport](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1220097/Everton-Farhad-Moshiri-January-transfer-Carlo-Ancelotti)), it is frustrating to see the club haggle over such a small difference to the point where it could prevent them from signing the man they want. The Toffees need to sign a midfielder this month, and while they could yet still bring one in before the deadline, they’re leaving it mightily close.

We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out, as there will likely be more twists and turns as we approach the deadline. Here’s hoping that Everton can get some business done.
