# Everton to swoop for ‘new Ronaldo’?

Everton are looking into the possibility of signing Ricardo Horta in January, who would cost the around £3m, [according to reports in Spain.](https://talksport.com/football/everton-transfer-report-toffees-ready-make-ps3m-move-portugal-midfielder-151105173197)

The Portuguese Under-21 international currently plays for Malaga and has already made his senior debut for Portugal.

The 21-year-old plays predominantly on the wing, similar to that of his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo and according to talkSPORT, is tipped to have a very successful career.

It is yet to be seen whether Horta would go into Everton’s first team, due to Gerard Deulofeu, Kevin Mirallas, Aaron Lennon, Aiden McGeady and Arouna Kone already vying for the wide berths. He could also be seen as a replacement to Mirallas, should he leave the Merseysiders. Though, [Roberto Martinez has publicly stated](https://readeverton.com/2015/11/05/martinez-no-intentions-selling-mirallas/) he is not for sale.

According to talkSPORT again, Valencia and Sampdoria are looking into the youngster, but Everton hope to pip both over the line and plan to bid £3million to get the ball rolling.

On Thursday Martinez did hint towards bringing in younger talent rather than established names in January. Speaking at his pre-West Ham press conference he explained:

> It will be very important for us to make sure that the window that is going to open in the winter is gives us a bit more normality,
>
> (We may) look at the younger groups more than the first team level.
>
> We want to make sure we get a clear 10-month competition out of this squad, then it will be the summer when we reassess where we are and where we should go.
>
> We wouldn’t be looking to the winter as a moment to make significant changes.
