# Everton target Egan as Ancelotti’s first signing

Carlo Ancelotti is considering a move for Sheffield United defender John Egan in January, according to reports.

The 27-year old has starred for Chris Wilder’s side in the Premier League this season, with the Blades currently fifth in the Premier League despite having only been promoted to the top flight last season.

Everton are in desperate need of another centre-back in January, with Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina currently the only senior options in that position at Goodison Park.

[According to Mirror Sport](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/everton-target-sheffield-utds-john-21155740), Egan has emerged as a prime target for the Toffees, with Ancelotti keen on making him the club’s first signing.

The Blues see Egan as the perfect addition to their squad, and the club believe that they would be able to tempt the Republic of Ireland international away from Bramall Lane, despite their league position being much lower than United’s.

Wilder however is confident that the club can resist big money offers for their star players.

Egan might not be the most glamorous of targets that the club have been linked with in recent weeks, but he is a very competent Premier League player, as he has proved this season.

Partly through Chris Wilder’s management, the Blades have performed marvellously in the Premier League this season, and that also comes down to the players who have overcome expectations.

United would likely prove to be tricky customers as they won’t want to let Egan go easily, but with Everton’s resources and with the pull of Ancelotti, it’ll be interesting to see if a deal can be done.
