Everton are eyeing up AC Milan defender Christian Zapata as they look to bolster their centre-half options, the Daily Mail reports.
The Colombian, who starred in his country’s impressive World Cup campaign last year, is out of favour at the San Siro.
Zapata made just 13 appearances for the fallen giants last season and is considering his options.
The 28-year-old joined Milan in 2012 but has failed to hold down a regular starting spot due to injury and inconsistency.
The Mail believe that Zapata could be a potential replacement for Toffees star John Stones, who’s catching the eye of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Everton have already rejected two bids of £20million and £26million from the Premier League champions, who seem undeterred by Roberto Martinez’s staunch refusal to sell.
Jose Mourinho’s side are set to return with a third offer of £30million for the Barnsley youth graduate.
Everton will continue to fight the advances of the London club but have reportedly made contingency plans should Stones depart.
Another reported defensive target for the Toffees, Virgil Van Dijk, has held talks with Southampton over a potential move to Hampshire, while previous moves for Angelo Ogbonna and Scott Dann failed to materialise.
