# Everton to battle with Villa for Roma starlet – good youth signing?

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Roma defender Vincenzo Venturino Muteba.

The Blues join Aston Villa in registering interest in the 17-year old full-back, who can reportedly play on either flank.

[Tuttomercatoweb claim](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/altre-notizie/tmw-roma-su-muteba-ci-sono-everton-e-aston-villa-1286710)that both Villa and Everton see the young Italian as an ideal recruitment for their respective youth set-ups, and are set to juke it out for his signature.

### Read Everton Verdict

Muteba is a Roma academy product who hasn’t yet made his way into the senior set up at the Stadio Olimpico, so it stands to reason that information on the player is limited at best.

However [HITC report](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/09/02/report-aston-villa-and-everton-keen-on-vincenzo-muteba/) that the teenager played 21 times for Roma’s youth side last season, scoring once too. He plays primarily as a right-back, but he also has the ability to cover on the left, which he did on a handful of occasions.

With players like this, it is largely a roll of the dice, especially for fans. But it is equally impressive to see the care and attention Everton show towards David Unsworth’s Under-23s and the other youth teams consistently maintained, so if he has been identified as a top target, hopefully the club’s recruitment team can get their man.
