# Everton to cut their losses on Tosun – could they demand more money?

Everton are willing to take a massive loss on Cenk Tosun as they look to raise funds in January, [according to Football Insider.](https://www.footballinsider247.com/everton-ready-to-sell-player-at-massive-loss/)

Sam Allardyce signed Tosun from Besiktas coming up on two years ago for £27million, with the Turkey international seen as Everton’s long-term solution to Romelu Lukaku’s departure.

However, despite a successful six months at the club, Tosun fell down the pecking order under Marco Silva, struggling to impress when given the opportunity to play last season.

This season his stock has decreased even further, having made just one Premier League appearance so far, coming off the bench against Sheffield United.

According to Football Insider, Everton are willing to sell Tosun in January with his services deemed surplus to requirements, with the report claiming that the club would accept an offer of around £10million.

That would be a huge loss on Everton’s initial investment, the second major financial loss suffered from players signed during Steve Walsh’s regime as director of football, after Davy Klaassen was also sold for significantly less than the initial investment.

Qatari club Al Gharafa reportedly made a substantial offer for Tosun in September and while Everton were willing to accept at the time, the player himself didn’t wish to move to the Middle East.

It is expected that Tosun will leave in January though, with Marcel Brands having identified the forward as a player who can be sold to generate funds for more signings.

I’ve banged on and on about how I think Cenk Tosun should remain at Goodison Park and play more frequently for Marco Silva’s team. However, if he isn’t playing and there are no immediate plans to integrate him into the starting line-up, then maybe he should be cut loose.

£10million is a massive loss and I would have thought Everton could have got more than that, but if Brands is willing to accept that low of an offer, they must not have faith that they can earn much more.

If Tosun’s sale enables the club to purchase a strong defensive recruit, such as Kurt Zouma, then shifting the Turk will be worth it in the long run.
