# Everton turned down Depay offer – Was that the right move?

Everton decided to turn down the chance to sign Lyon forward Memphis Depay earlier this summer, [as revealed by Mail Online](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7336497/Transfer-news-Everton-turned-former-Manchester-United-flop-Memphis-Depay.html).

According to the report, Everton were offered the chance to sign the former Manchester United forward, who has impressed since signing for the Ligue 1 side.

Memphis has been touted to a number of clubs across England and Europe this summer, with no takers as of yet keen to sign the Netherlands international.

Everton are instead putting their stock into a prospective deal for Wilfried Zaha, with the club hoping to get that move done before the transfer deadline.

The Toffees are also still interested in Alex Iwobi, and are expected to make another bid for the versatile attacker.

With Everton and Marco Silva so desperate to bring in a winger before the deadline, it is interesting to see that the club turned down the chance to bring in an international forward with Champions League pedigree.

Interestingly, Marcel Brands would have worked with Depay at PSV, which could tell you all you need to know about how Brands values Depay’s ability.

Should Everton sign Wilfried Zaha, no one will be thinking about the possibility to sign Depay but if Everton are left high and dry, then some fans may start to ponder would could have been if the Dutchman had signed.
