# Everton Zaha bid rejected – Should they return with another offer?

Crystal Palace have rejected Everton’s latest offer of £70million plus two players for Wilfried Zaha, [according to Sky Sports News](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/11779180/wilfried-zaha-evertons-70m-plus-james-mccarthy-and-cenk-tosun-bid-rejected-by-crystal-palace), with the Eagles holding out for much more for their star man.

The Blues reportedly made their latest offer with both Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy included in the deal, and while Palace are interested in McCarthy ([with a move imminent](https://readeverton.com/2019/08/07/mccarthy-nears-palace-switch-are-the-eagles-getting-a-bargain/)) the two club’s decided to keep negotiations for the Ireland international’s transfer separate to any talks regarding Zaha.

Palace have maintained throughout the transfer window that it would take an offer of around £80million to land the Ivory Coast international, who is interested in leaving Selhurst Park this summer, and the club are remaining resolute in that stance.

[talkSPORT claim](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1159031401880137728) that Everton are preparing to launch yet another bid to land the 26-year old, with Marco Silva still keen on adding another winger to his squad before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Everton are expected to be busy over the next 24 hours, with Silva still also trying to convince Watford into selling star midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, while the club are still intent on signing another centre-back.

### Read Everton verdict

This transfer saga is a really interesting one, one in which I didn’t expect Everton to become so invested in. From the beginning of the summer it appeared that Palace’s price tag was simply too high to tempt serious interest from Everton, and it was unlikely that Silva would land his man.

However Everton’s continued interest has consistently surprised me, and while I’m not entirely sure whether paying over £80million for Zaha would be a gamble worth taking, I am sure as to the signal it would send to the rest of the Premier League.

For a few seasons now, Everton have had much deeper pockets than fans ever thought possible, and it is now no shock to outsiders that the club have cash to burn. However, it has as of yet been difficult to really make a splash in the transfer market, with £50million not going as far as it would have done ten years ago.

By bidding (and hopefully buying) Zaha for around £80million, Everton are signalling their intent to break through the glass ceiling of the top six this season, and they are declaring to other Premier League rivals that they are driven to realise their lofty ambitions. While Zaha is certainly a gamble, I’m all for Everton attempting to show the world that they mean business.
