FA Cup run is hurting Everton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that there longer than expected FA cup run is impacting on their season in the league.

Everton currently sit 12th in the Premier League table and face Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday and are on a very slippery slope down the table after losing to Manchester United last time out.

The Blues also lost to West Ham and Arsenal in recent fixtures but between these bad results Martinez has guided his team to the semi-final of the FA Cup after beating Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison Park.

But while an FA Cup run is always nice, the man at the helm is very aware that the club’s league form is his main concern.

Martinez said in his pre-match presser:

“We need to be obsessed with our remaining league games.”

“We are not a team that’s going to give in. We’ve got a game in hand and a lot of points to fight for. We have to be concentrating.

“The last three defeats have been different. But the hype we’ve had with the semi-final of the FA Cup has affected the results in the league. We need to take responsibility.

“The pressure is one we welcome. We want to be perfect. We just lost to United because they took their chance and we won the crossbar. We were not happy with that.

“For our standards, it wasn’t good enough. We’ve gone past looking at who we are playing against. We have standards. It’s a new era and we have to be demanding of performing well in every game.”

Some fans have completely washed their hands with Roberto Martinez after the way he dealt with Leighton Baines’ comments yesterday.

With so much tension and negativity surrounding the club, does the Catalonian have to win the F.A Cup in order to stay in charge at Goodison Park, or is that not even enough anymore?

matchday.
