# Fans conflicted over Ross Barkley after comments on Lucas Digne

[Ross Barkley](https://readastonvilla.com/2021/01/12/villa-suffer-ross-barkley-transfer-blow-chelsea-hardball/) has provoked starkly contrasting sentiments among some Everton supporters following his words of praise for Toffees star [Lucas Digne](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/21/manchester-city-eye-move-for-lucas-digne-in-january/).

The French international was instrumental in [the Blues’ win](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55540637) over Wolves on Tuesday night as his guided cross was met by Alex Iwobi superbly on the half-volley for the opening goal. That striker and a late headed winner from Michael Keane sandwiched a well-worked Wolves goal from Ruben Neves.

Digne had [only just returned](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-digne/leistungsdaten/spieler/126664) from a training ground injury he sustained after the Toffees’ 3-2 win over Fulham earlier in the season.

Without [top scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/leistungsdaten/verein/29) Dominic Calvert-Lewin to call upon, Carlo Ancelotti curiously fielded a team with [no natural strikers](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55540637) in the starting XI but had two centre-forwards in Ellis Simms and Cenk Tosun on the bench.

Meanwhile, former Blues maestro Ross Barkley offered keen praise for Digne’s creative display, [tweeting his praise](https://twitter.com/LucasDigne/status/1349137688172105729) for the Frenchman’s “wand of a left foot”. The ex-Barcelona defender replied with gratitude, saying “Thank you bro” along with an accompaniment of emojis.

Having spent eight years at Goodison Park, Barkley [departed](https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com/2018/1/20/16912616/everton-chelsea-transfer-rumours-january-2018-ross-barkley) to join Chelsea in 2018 – a move which still seems to rankle among many Evertonians, judging by the replies to the Barkley-Digne Twitter exchange. However, some fans were more conciliatory towards the England midfielder…
