# Fans question why Niasse has a place in Everton’s EFL Trophy squad

Oumar Niasse scored a brace on Tuesday evening as Everton’s Under-21’s drew with Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy.

The League Two side held onto a 2-2 draw against the Toffees at Gresty Road, before winning the following penalty shootout 5-4 to earn a bonus point.

Everton have now qualified for the knockout stage of the competition for the first time since they begun taking part in the 2016/17 season.

The Toffees are also still unbeaten, despite having come up against three Football League sides in their group, winning one of their games and drawing two.

With Niasse having been relegated into the youth squads this season, many Everton fans took umbrage with the Senegal striker potentially taking a squad place away from a possible burgeoning young talent.

Given that Niasse is unlikely to play for Everton’s first-team again, many fans want to see young talent given the chance to impress, and not the 29-year old striker, with several taking to social media to express their thoughts on the matter.

### Read Everton Verdict

I do feel sorry for Oumar Niasse, because he clearly doesn’t have a future at Everton yet he hasn’t been able to find a new club.

Marco Silva would definitely be in a position to let the Senegal international go, and many Everton fans would wish him well, but for whatever reason he is still on Merseyside kicking his heels and wasting away in the youth squads.

There is little point in playing Niasse in these games too. As some fans have mentioned, this competition is designed for young talent to get their chance to play against senior players in a competitive environment. Niasse gets nothing out of these games, and it means that one less young striker gets that experience on offer.

Everton need to sort out something for Niasse in January, because not only is he an unnecessary drain on wages, but also he deserves better than the situation he is currently in.
