# Four midfielders Everton could sign in the summer as Chelsea target Vecino

Everton have been [urged](https://www.football365.com/news/everton-allarydyce-urges-ancelotti-signings) to invest in genuine quality in midfield once the transfer window reopens, with a man to occupy the engine room [speculated](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/summer-transfer-budget-gylfi-sigurdsson-17741650) to be on Carlo Ancelotti’s wish list this summer.

Much of the club’s transfer speculation in January revolved around potential midfield recruits, following a spate of [injuries](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jean-philippe-gbamin-suffers-major-17666523) and [poor form](https://readeverton.com/2020/01/18/everton-fans-slam-delph-following-west-ham-draw/) disrupting Everton’s current crop of midfield talent.

Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino was one such name to crop up a number of times throughout the month, with Everton [said to be close](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1220854240190615552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1220854240190615552&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsportslens.com%2Fnicolo-schira-everton-close-in-on-double-deals-for-everton-soares-and-matias-vecino%2F285174%2F) to signing the Uruguayan at one point.

Now, [Express Sport claim](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1242915/Chelsea-news-Matias-Vecino-Inter-Milan-transfer-willing-to-meet-asking-price-rumours) that Chelsea are eyeing a summer move for the 28-year old, with Frank Lampard’s side willing to pay Inter’s £23 million asking price.

[Express Sport](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1242915/Chelsea-news-Matias-Vecino-Inter-Milan-transfer-willing-to-meet-asking-price-rumours) also indicate that Everton are still interested in Vecino, despite Ancelotti having [poured cold water](https://www.corriere.it/sport/20_febbraio_11/carlo-ancelotti-premier-league-altro-mondo-qui-calcio-felicita-38c7a122-4c31-11ea-91c6-061fa519fab0.shtml) on such speculation earlier this month.

With this story in mind, we’ve taken a look at five other midfield options that Ancelotti could explore instead of Vecino once the club’s transfer business gets underway.
