# Gbamin excited by Goodison debut – Will the Ivorian start?

JP Gbamin has credited being surrounded by ‘great players’ for helping him settle in quickly at Everton, with the midfielder now itching to experience Goodison Park for the first time.

The Ivory Coast international didn’t expect to make his debut for his new club as fast as he did, having not had a pre-season, coming on as a first-half substitute against Crystal Palace following an injury to Andre Gomes.

Now the the-23 has got a taste of action in an Everton shirt, he is desperate to do so again, this time in front of the roaring crowd on Merseyside. Talking to [Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1311407/gbamin-excited-by-his-first-taste-of-goodison), Gbamin said of this weekend’s game:

> We will be at home and we want the three points to build on our draw at Crystal Palace.

> With the fans behind us, it will be amazing.

> I have no choice but to learn quickly \[about Everton’s playing style\]. I came at the end of the market, so I will try to learn fast and keep going and work hard.

> I enjoy the challenge, it is good to accept any challenge you face. This is the best league in the world, so I will embrace this.

> Everything at Everton was ready for me to feel at home. The players are helping me and I will give everything to take my chance here.

Gbamin also credited the club’s training regime for bringing him up to speed, saying the ‘quality and intensity’ of the sessions are helping him make up for lost time. The Ivorian continued:

> It is very intense and that is good for every player. We fight every day in training for a place in the XI for the game.

> There is quality and intensity. It is very hard but that is how every footballer wants to train. If you have great players around you, it is easier to play.

> We have the quality in the squad… we will keep working and go forward together to grow in the future.

JP Gbamin got a little too much stick for his debut appearance for my liking. I thought the Ivorian did a competent job against Palace, especially considering he was thrown in at the deep end at Selhurst Park.

I feel much more confident that with time and with minutes under his belt, Gbamin will come on strong and these words, although likely filtered through the club’s PR time, do ring positive in my mind.
