# Grealish ruled out against Coventry: How Everton saga unfolded

**Jack Grealish will miss a fourth successive [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) match after David Moyes confirmed the winger will not be involved against Coventry City on Friday night.**

The 31-year-old has not played since the defeat to Chelsea on 17 October. His absence has included illness, a breach of club discipline and concerns over his fitness, with Moyes yet to put a date on his return.

Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Moyes said: “Jack is not available. I would not give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon.”

## Jack Grealish’s Everton absence: The timeline

The episode began attracting attention after reports of two nights out in October, although Everton have not linked those outings to the subsequent disciplinary action.

- **Monday 19 October – Pride of Britain Awards:** Grealish attends the ceremony in London before reportedly visiting BAM Karaoke Box in Victoria with friends. According to [a tabloid](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/40871783/jack-grealish-boozing-axed-everton/), he stays until the early hours.
- **Tuesday 20 October – Night out in Wilmslow:** Grealish reportedly attends Everton training before visiting the Mucky Pup pub that evening. The Sun reports that Everton teammates Jordan Pickford and Tyler Dibling, along with former Manchester City teammate Kyle Walker, are among those present.
- **Saturday 24 October – Arsenal absence:** Grealish misses Everton’s 2-0 Premier League defeat at Arsenal, with illness given as the reason. It is the first of what will become four consecutive matches without the winger.
- **Monday 26 October – Missed training session:** Grealish reportedly fails to attend a scheduled training session without permission. [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/13605512/jack-grealish-dropped-by-everton-after-breaching-club-discipline-ahead-of-newcastle-carabao-cup-tie) subsequently identifies the absence as the reason for Everton’s disciplinary decision.
- **Thursday 29 October – Dropped for Newcastle cup tie:** Everton confirm Grealish is unavailable for selection because of a breach of club discipline. Moyes backs the decision after his side beat Newcastle 3-1 to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, but declines to discuss the details.
- **Monday 2 November – Another Newcastle absence:** Grealish misses Everton’s 1-0 Premier League victory at St James’ Park, with the club citing a lack of match fitness. Asked afterwards whether the situation can be repaired, Moyes replies: “Of course there is, yes.”
- **Thursday 5 November – Coventry absence confirmed:** Moyes rules Grealish out of Friday’s home match against Coventry. He says the club will work with the winger again soon but, asked whether the international break could help resolve matters, adds: “We will see.”

## When could Grealish return?

Moyes has left the door open, but there is still no confirmed date for Grealish’s return to the squad. Everton’s next league match after Coventry is away to Brentford on 23 November, following the international break.

Reports this week have suggested Everton would prefer to keep the Manchester City loanee rather than end his spell early in January. That position has not been formally confirmed by the club.

Everton have won both Newcastle matches without Grealish and sit seventh in the Premier League. For now, the winger remains out of the side, with Moyes offering encouragement about his eventual return but no firm timetable.
